H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, today stated that sustainability, environmental preservation, safeguarding natural resources and limiting the effects of climate change are at the forefront of the UAE’s priorities to help create a bright future for its younger generations and play a significant role in global climate efforts, as he held discussions with Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, and her delegation.
H.H. Sheikh Saud was briefed on the Ministry’s plans and programmes, which aim to protect and develop the natural environment, achieve food security and ensure sustainability, while supporting the UAE’s economic development.
He said that the UAE has made great strides in terms of sustainability and that the hosting of COP28 this November is testament to the country’s success and ambition in this area. “With its comprehensive Energy Efficiency and Renewables Strategy 2040, Ras Al Khaimah is directly contributing to the UAE’s efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, while also helping to enhance quality of life for all people who live in the Emirate,” H.H. Sheikh Saud added.
He also pointed out the need to not rest on laurels and to continue to strengthen national sustainability efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and limit the impact of climate change on the environment and the UAE economy.
The Minister of Climate Change and Environment stated her appreciation for H.H. Sheikh Saud’s support for the Ministry’s projects in Ras Al Khaimah and its pioneering strategies in sustainability and energy efficiency. She added that the participation of Ras Al Khaimah Government in the UAE Governments Net Zero 2050 Charter enhances the country’s effectiveness in mitigating the effects of climate change and cements its position in this effort regionally and internationally.
