While a staggering 448,500 speeding violations have been recorded by traffic radar in Ras Al Khaimah since 2016, up to 250,000 drivers fined for these violations have benefited from a penalty discount initiative launched by Ras Al Khaimah Police.
“Commenced in 2016, the speeding fines discount initiative has been extended several times, with the most recent extension carried out in conjunction with the UAE’s Year of Tolerance. Our aim with the scheme is to help reduce financial expenses for residents and visitors to RAK who are caught speeding by our roadside radar cameras. The initiative offers 50% discount on fines paid within 50 days of the violation and 30% discount on fines paid within 51-81 days. If a fine is outstanding beyond 81 days, then the full amount needs to be paid,” said Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, General Commander of RAK Police.
Major-General Al Nuaimi highlighted that the speeding fines discount initiative aims to improve the quality of life in Ras Al Khaimah by imposing less stringent financial penalties for early payment. He said that it also helps to keep motorists on the road, as accumulated fines can be a barrier to renewing car and vehicle licenses.
